Summary: Assist transportation supervision in the day-to-day operation of the dispatch function and the supervision of the truck driver's routes and schedules. Efficient use of equipment and compliance of DOT regulations is of utmost importance. Responsible for the guiding and developing of associates in dispatch clerk positions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Route store orders into efficient delivery routes within weight and DOT regulations.

Assign work to drivers to ensure the safe, timely, efficient delivery of product to Harris Teeter stores in compliance with hours of service guidelines.

Ensure switcher and yard efficiency.

Responsible for compliance with state, federal and company regulations.

Dispatch drivers and equipment to optimize DOT hours of service.

Communicate with stores about early or late deliveries.

Communicate and collaborate with shipping, salvage dock, receiving, Greensboro DC, for optimum efficiency and store service equipment utilization.

Ensure proper and timely maintenance including but not limited to: Dispatch, backhaul records, equipment needs, hours of service, on-tie delivery performance, trip sheets, store order cases and cube, store mail, accident reporting.

Assist transportation supervisor and assume supervisory duties as needed.

Keep files updated on driver DOT qualification information as directed by supervision.

Review trip sheets for accurate delivery time.

Review CADEC reports for productivity and policy compliance.

Adapt to various situations and adjust to shifting priorities.

Set example for and encourage an atmosphere of cooperation, teamwork, and professionalism.

Follow company policies and procedures.

Follow the company attendance policy.

Follow the company safety policy.

Enter payroll data.

Enter delay data.

Administer payroll weekly check off sheet.

Administer temporary staff reporting,

Make appointments for backhauls.

Maintain attendance log, including vacation, sick and personal days.

Follow through with request and recommendations of transportation management.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Experience:

One year certificate from college or technical school, and one year dispatch experience; or two years dispatch experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and dispatch experience.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word word processing software; Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software; MDS Yard Management Software; CAMS Dispatch Software; RoadShow routing software, Triceps/Abs WMS system and Cadec OBC Software, Microsoft Access database software.

 

Certificates, Licenses:

Successfully pass company administered industrial equipment certification

 

Other Skills and Abilities:                                 

Must display supervisory abilities.

Safely operate and maneuver tractor trailers in delivery application.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 90-150 employees in the dispatcher/driver group.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
