Your Purpose

The Senior Manager, Safety leads and advances the enterprise-wide safety strategy across retail store locations, corporate offices (SSC), and distribution centers, creating a strong safety-first culture across all areas of the business. This role ensures compliance with all safety regulations, reduces risk exposure, and drives initiatives that protect associates and enhance the customer experience. By leading a multi-region team of Safety Specialists in both field and distribution center environments, this position delivers consistent, high-impact safety programs that support operational excellence while also positively influencing financial performance through reduced claims and risk-related costs.

What You’ll Do

Develop and execute a comprehensive safety strategy aligned with company objectives across retail, corporate, and distribution environments
Establish and maintain a strong safety culture focused on prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement
Serve as the subject matter expert for safety standards, compliance, and regulatory requirements
Lead, coach, and develop a team of regional Safety Specialists supporting stores and distribution locations
Build talent pipelines and succession plans for safety field roles
Provide ongoing training, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities
Oversee incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis across all locations
Ensure timely and accurate handling of Workers’ Compensation (WC) and General Liability (GL) claims
Identify trends and implement targeted risk mitigation strategies
Partner with leaders to reduce workplace injuries, accidents, and claims costs
Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations
Lead response and coordination for regulatory inspections and audits
Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and training programs
Monitor compliance metrics and drive accountability across the organization
Partner with Store Operations, Distribution, HR, Risk Management, and Legal teams
Support store and DC leadership with safety strategies, training, and incident response
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed safety into daily operations
Analyze safety metrics, claims data, and incident trends to drive decision-making
Develop dashboards and KPIs to measure program effectiveness
Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation in safety practices

What You Bring

  • 7-10+ years of progressive experience in safety, risk management, or operations
  • 3-5+ years of leadership experience managing field-based teams
  • Experience in multi-site environments (retail, grocery, distribution, or similar)
  • Demonstrated success in reducing incident rates and managing claims

Preferred

  • Experience in grocery retail or distribution operations
  • Professional certification (MESH, CSP, ASP, ARM, or similar)
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide safety programs
