Summary;
Manages the food safety program at all Harris Teeter Distribution and Fulfillment Centers. Provides technical leadership to ensure compliance with federal, state, and Harris Teeter food safety and quality requirements as they relate to the receiving, storage, and distribution of food and non-food products at Harris Teeter and Third Party operated distribution and fulfillment centers. This position resides in the Greensboro Distribution Center and manages food safety in the Indian Trail Distribution Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develops, maintains, and improves applicable HACCP and FSMA mandated food safety plans
· Develops and implements food safety policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements and conform with industry best practices for food safety, quality, and sanitation to ensure receipt, storage, and distribution of safe quality foods
· Provides guidance to Distribution/Fulfillment center associates regarding food safety, sanitation, and pest control performance as measured by food safety metrics
· Reviews and implements strategies to ensure cold chain integrity to include compliance with policies
· Leads continuous improvement projects that improve the overall food safety/sanitation performance of distribution and fulfillment centers
· Develops, implements, and conducts the Food Safety and Quality training program for Distribution associates by partnering with training and development and associate relations
· Ensures food safety audits are being conducted at Harris Teeter and Third Party Operated distribution/fulfillment centers, perform detailed review of audit results, and work with distribution teams to develop corrective action
· Develops working relationships with FDA, USDA, and state and local governmental agencies, industry and academia to keep abreast of regulatory and technological changes that may affect the food industry
· Champions and supports a Food Safety Culture within the Harris Teeter Distribution Network
· Uses internal data and reporting to drive continuous improvement
· Works cross functionally with operations, facilities, merchandising, inventory control, and quality assurance to continuously improve and strengthen food safety
· Must be available for crisis management after hours and on weekends

Required Education/Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field
· 5+ years experience of food safety in retail, distribution, and/or manufacturing of food products
· Effective oral/written communication skills
· Strong facilitation and training skills
· Advanced Microsoft office skills
· Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
Preferred Education/Experience:
· Certification in HACCP
· FDA Preventive Controls Training (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual)
· Knowledgeable in SQF and/or GFSI schemes
· Any knowledge/ experience in Pest Control and Elimination in Food Manufacturing and/or Distribution Centers
Language Ability:
Effective written and verbal communication/presentation skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or departments within the organization. Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving known and unknown variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have advanced computer skills, including proficiency in software relevant to performing given tasks (i.e. tracking, formatting, letter and memo writing, generating reports and presentations). The individual must have knowledge of Microsoft Word processing software; Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software; Internet research internet software; Microsoft Powerpoint project management software; Microsoft Outlook contact management software; and Recall Application database software.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must possess a nationally recognized food safety credential.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Currently, this job has no internal supervisory responsibilities but there is potential to add direct reports. Manages vendor relationships.
