Summary: Assists in planning, organizing, and management of an assigned group of categories to optimize sales, profit and meets marketing, financial, and corporate growth objectives by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but is not limited to:
Creates and develops a long term plan and strategy for marketing, sales, and financial plans for the sustainable growth of the categories managed
Manages a portfolio of different items, brands, and suppliers developing appropriate promotional strategies for the success of each
Conducts market analysis to develop category strategies, define category roles, and achieve strategy objectives for each category managed
Effectively manages in-store placement of assigned products on shelf and off shelf to include creation of schematics through space management tools and promotional and everyday merchandising that optimizes traffic flow through the store
Develop a strategic and comprehensive category assortment and item sales plan that supports the overall Harris Teeter marketing strategy; Participates in overall product strategy, research and development requirements, and manufacturing coordination for new and emerging products
Monitors everyday inventory and appropriately forecasts promotional inventory to successfully complete category objectives 
Identifies market potential, estimates potential sales, introduces new items to market, identifies distribution/channel issues, defines promotional activities, procures product, and manages mature product through phase-out
Monitors and maintains retail pricing according to company approved pricing strategy in alignment with category roles
Makes category financial projections by week, period, and year
Meets sales and profit and other financial goals for assigned products
Coordinates program planning with vendor to ensure identification of appropriate manufacturing schedules, goals, design criteria, costs and similar considerations
Negotiates with suppliers for best cost and purchasing terms and promotional plans and opportunities
Provides financial and technical justification for product selection and definition
Prepares product development objectives and schedules for all phases of product development and introduction to market
Conducts and analyzes market research identify changing trends, adjusts accordingly to deliver company objectives and lead new trends versus following
Analyzes customer focused insights regarding the product and categories managed
Work alongside sales agents and national accounts sales teams to translate customer insights into strategies which drive performance of each category managed
Meets with supplier community on regular basis to evaluate item assortment and develop category and promotional plans
Develops strong working relationships with supplier community, procurement, own brand team, marketing, and store operations teams
Ensures stores receive appropriate levels of service from suppliers
Coordinates efforts of indirect merchandising support staff
Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas such as sales, marketing, manufacturing, and operations to develop and provide product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities to accomplish company goals
Provides technical expertise and training to support departments
Visits both Harris Teeter and Competitor stores to determine effectiveness of programs and understand the retail marketplace
Stays current on industry trends and topics
Attends conferences and trade shows related to the department, upon approval by supervisor
Maintain accurate and adequate records, contract and other information vital to protecting company assets which would include the following: New Vendor Form, Certificate of Insurance, Signed W-9 Form, Vendor Acknowledgment Form and the Harris Teeter Product Disposition Form
Maintain current knowledge of, comply with and enforce all company and local / state / federal regulatory requirement relating to food products and food safety

Educational Experience:

Required: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.  A minimum of 2 years experience in Category Management -or- of 2 years experience as a Harris Teeter Field Specialist, Assistant Manager, Co-Manager, or Store Director/Manager -or- an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Previous Category management experience, or 2 years Consumer Product Group (CPG) experience in area of expertise.

Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: 
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, word processing software; Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software; Soft Grocer inventory software; BICEPS/TRICEPS order processing systems, Micro Strategy database software, and Ad Display PIPPA Software.

Work Environment:

The current position is a hybrid working model which requires the associate to be present in office 3 days per week and is subject to change at anytime.  

Travel:
